Objectives

Objectives: Global

There is so much work that can be done to help preserve sight but there are currently three main immediate objectives that need funding. They are

Fact

50% of visual impairment is preventable.

Solution

Prevention depends on the population engaging in regular eye tests and being aware of concerning eye symptoms. This is why eye health awareness is crucial.

How

Precious Sight Foundation will set up eye health awareness drop in centres & set up seminars that can be run in schools, villages et al

Fact

Glaucoma is a significant cause of blindness in Nigeria and in the rest of the world. It is known to be more aggressive in Afro-Carribeans and damage is irreversible.

Solution

There are well established ways of diagnosing glaucoma early before significant sight loss and proven medical and surgical treatment to prevent progression to blindness

How

Selective trabeculoplasty is clinically proven to treat glaucoma safely and effectively. Precious Sight Foundation will invest in the Selecta II by Lumenis to provide selective trabeculoplasty in partnership with an established local ophthalmologist at a fraction of standard costs so as to make the service available to more grass root sufferers.

Outreaches have become the mainstay of PSF work as we provide quick and effective solutions to locals in their communities. We pride ourselves on our service and provision of free prescription glasses, reading glasses and eye drops. With our team of dedicated and hard working Doctors we diagnose many conditions and oftentimes refer patients to hospitals for drug treatment.

We are grateful to be able to see a few hundred people per day whilst we do our outreach programs and it has become our best product yet.

On our travels we have come across many people who need operations and as such we have moved into the business of working with local hospitals to fund surgeries as an when needed. We have also built relationships with partner organisations and regularly sponsor cataract and pterygium cases in The Gambia and Nigeria.
